Dwelling Place
I struggled to find the dictionary meaning of a dwelling place, even though I know, we all know in hearts what that means. It is a place where you belong, a place whether you own or not you can call your home, a place where you can rest, a place where you are always welcome, a place where you need not an invitation to participate or be there. A place here on earth many of us are searching for in various aspects and stages of our lives.
What distinguishes a dwelling place from a resting place, I did not look up in a dictionary. But I know a resting place is a short, sometimes interrupted stay along a journey. It is not a place you can call home, neither is it a place that is most comfortable. Sometimes along our journeys we rest because we are tired, we rest because we need some relief, we rest because it is advised to do so, we rest because the place looked inviting. In between all of that rest we know we must leave.
I don't know about you, but I prefer to dwell somewhere and create pockets of good memories, create joy everlasting and feel love and be alive. I want goodness, peace and love to reside in my dwelling place. I don't want to rest in a place where depending on circumstances I may not have a place, nor may I be invited. A place where love sometimes lives, but sometimes hides. A place where joy is a rare event and I never know when it will pass again.
Who decides where I dwell or rest. Me! I do. I decide if I want to rest or dwell be it in love, at work, where I live and where I grow old. I decide! I also have the power to create such a place through the environment that I create. I can decide to be patient, to forgive, not to judge, and to be kind. I can also decide I don't have time, neither the energy to put in the effort, nor to give it another try. Whatever option I choose, will affect the people I invite, who rests or who dwells.
Bring it back to God, but don't take it out of your environment. Have you created a dwelling place or a resting place for him in your life, in your family, where you work and where you pray?
You and only you can decide and create a place that you chose for yourself, your family and your loved ones, your colleagues and most importantly your Father.
