SPOTTED - Euphonik
Last Tuesday night (22 May 2014) while I waited in-line at the KLM check in counter, my aunt and I were behind two young men, short in height. As the line progressed, another young shortman joined them in the queue - it was the one and only Euphonik. Immediately he started chatting, I felt, almost in pretence that he had been in the line a lot longer but had gone somewhere and was now back. I didn't take another glance, only a young moment later to mention to my aunt that we were on the same line with the DJ. My niece, Mbali, upon hearing that screamed 'oh! Bonang's man! Regte wa Queen B..
I cast my mind back to when I saw him, in blue jeans and a black top. I did not pay much attention to his shoes. He looked short, shorter than I had imagined him. I had always heard he was short but I had not placed his height where I saw it with my own eyes. He looked like he had a layer of fat around his belly, but the type that is manageable. I wondered if he went to gym. I imagined Queen B and what she looked like, if she was taller than him or the same height, perhaps only much taller when she is wearing heels. She definately goes to gym, I think for all the cover shoots - I wonder how much time he goes to gym and if that bothered B. Then I remembered some article about Euphonik and Kune (I think) fighting over Queen B. I never bothered to read the story but a brief analysis of the DJ- I don't think he could have said those words 'hands off my girl' if I remember the article. Judging from the cover he doesn't look like a violent type.
So, we checked in and sat by the departure lounge. I went and used the bathoom, a last minute thought and so did my aunt. While waiting for her, they called out three names! Yes you guessed it. Nkosi and co. They were delaying the boarding procedure and no where to be found. I had the check-in crew debating that "Yes! It is Euphonik, with his buddies!!! They are drinking, baya buhlaba e lounge, plus yi free, le yeKLM". We walked down the zig-zag path. As I glanced back, there they were, looking a lil sweaty like they had been running, once they heard their names being called out. I didn't see young lads too consumed with fame, but young men, too obsessed with life and living la vida loca. It could have been any young group of guys. I guess because he is popular some folks feel the need to extend their behaviour to that of well known celebrities, soo notorious with all they do.
They stood behind us as we were about to enter the plane. Talking about an African beast or something into the wild. It didn't make sense what they were talking about, but I guess we all have code phrases when we want a private discussion in public! And so we journeyed.
I follow him on Facebook because I like his positive outlook on life and encouraging messages he posts each morning. I was disappointed when I read one of the comments on his page. Some girl, dissing him and his girl. I thought, uncalled for and unkind - if they had nothing good to say, they should have kept it to themselves. The guy just posted a picture of himself having a good time in Amsterdam. There was no context for that followers comment.
Nonetheless, Euphonik, you should smile more. My aunt wanted an autograph. You looked a bit unapproachable so I couldn't even say to her; 'he is the guy standing behind us,' lol! Anyway, like my niece said you are lucky or most celebrities in South Africa for not having the paparazzi follow you around. I guess to some extent you can still live a normal life.
For the amount of success and wealth you have gained in your career. I think you still have a level head over your shoulder and for that I salute you. Keep on dreaming, achieving and inspiring the youth and anyone else who dares to follow your positive energy and outlook in life.
I spotted you!
